Drnovšku očitno res ni jasno, da je pustiti preteklost za sabo po takšni karieri rahlo nemogoče.

Da pri taki zadevi, kot je praznovanje dneva državnosti, odpove predsednik, je ubistvu nedopustno, otročje in se hkrati lahko zgodi samo v Sloveniji. Drnovšek, ki hoče svojo odsotnost opravičiti s slabim izgovorom, da naj bi bilo stanje duha v Sloveniji “slabo” (WTF?), tako izpade enako kot že nekajkrat v zadnjih letih: kot en klovn, saj ga nihče ne jemlje več resno. Verjamem, da je večina Slovencev nad njim enostavno in preprosto razočarana. Za trenutek bi se človeku zazdelo, da imamo že dva upokojena predsednika in nobenega aktivnega.

Če pač ne zmore dostojno opravljati funkcije predsednika države, se lahko brez večjih posledic umakne svojemu nasledniku.

V teh redkih trenutkih, ko smo prisiljeni iz sebe iztisniti marsikaj, česar v sebi pravzaprav nimamo, me običajno prizadane esejotožje.

Mojemu izbranemu faksu navkljub me na trenutke stisne in bi želel nekaj pisat. Brezvezno bluzit, kuštrat in upogibat besede, da dobim iz njih nove “zmešanke” (hmm, me zanima kaj bi naš najbolj znan slavist porekel na ta sinonim za skovanko, ki nastane pod vplivom zmešanosti). No, včasih prija tudi resno in globoko filozofsko razpredanje o tej in oni tegobi, ki pesti ta naš zdaj že res mali svet. Kot npr. tisto filozofsko vprašanje, če se nam obeta ponovni preskok v prevladujoči filozofiji nazaj iz antropocentrizma k ekološkemu kozmocentrizmu, in če ja, kdaj?

Tako in drugačno izlivanje nezadovoljstva nad tem svetom, lažnimi resnicami in ponavadi še najbolj nad imperfektnostno svoje podobe običajno ne konča na blogu, kakor tudi tokrat ni.

A dobro pač je, da tudi blog dobi kake Drobtinice z mize.

As Tomaž writes, there is another possibility of acquiring IPv6 connectivity, the so called tunnel brokers.

There’s aiccu, which is a tunnel client. It’s not completely plug’n'play, since you need to be registered user at one of the tunnel brokers.

Then there’s tspc, which Tomaž already mentioned. It works out of the box, except in some really restricted environments, where the firewall blocks nearly all UDP traffic. The downside compared to 6to4 is you get a different IP every time you connect, that packets are always routed through a tunnel server and the lantency is quite high.

Next is Miredo (also packaged in Debian), which is a Teredo protocol implementation. Teredo was originally developed at Microsoft and is enabled in Windows Vista by default, though it may be inactive. Teredo has teredo servers, teredo relays and teredo clients. Serves are used for ICMPv6 and when establishing tunnel and therefore do not need much bandwidth, the real IPv6 traffic is passed through relays.

Microsoft predicts ISPs and other large network providers will setup Teredo relays in order not to route local traffic out and back. This would actually enable the best possible way for transition to IPv6, slow and distributed. With Vista out and with out of the box support for IPv6, it’s only matter of time when home routers and other network appliances will start supporting IPv6. Not to mention that IPv6 has really improved support for multicast, effectively eliminating need for P2P applications (e.g. Octoshape, that our national television has used) to provide straming video.

To finish this, while tspc works, it’s probably not the best. I’ve tried pinging ftp.hr.debian.org (which has real IPv6 and is not using 6to4) and gotten lower latency with 6to4, and suprisingly, even lower with Miredo. It might seem useful to route 6to4 addresses via 6to4 and all other via miredo tunnel.

Great news! Egenix has released a new version (3.0.0) of mxTextTools. The most important improvement is probably Unicode support. I have considered mxTextTools as a candidate for speeding up Pootle, but previous versions lacked unicode support. And the new version is already in Debian unstable.

Now that this is solved, I might even give it a try when I find some time.

It is amazing how fast things can be done with some help of a good search engine and some advice sought after on an IRC channel. I was experiencing flickering when changing bitmaps with wxPython and asked about this on an IRC channel. I got a fairly unplausible advice, to replace the StaticBitmap widget I was using with a “generic static bitmap” (GenStaticBitmap), but it was a perfect solution. I got the solution to my problem in about 15 minutes, but it could have caused me unnecessary headache.

Next I needed to package my newly created software in a installer, so I quickly fetched NSIS. Even though I had already used it some time ago, creating a script from scratch is quite time consuming, so a bit of googling got me started with a Firefox installer script. Fast forward over some minor modifications and a couple of installer builds and I got myself a working installer (localized in Slovenian) for my shiny new cross plaform application. And I have probably already spent more time writing this post getting software packaged.

What was a showstopper then? Acquiring a copy of Visual Studio 2003 to build a CPython extension. I’ve already downloaded VS2003 years ago from MSDNAA, but was foolish enough to misplace the CD. Who would ever think it might come handy one day… Even more strange, the install files come packed in a zipped self-extracting 600MB big executable archive, go figure. And it takes a fair amount of time to install.

All in all, I’ve got my new Python/C project built and packaged.
