Hack the future - on 3rd International Multimedia Festival of Open Technologies HAIP 08!

.
.
.
Kultura in umetnost HAIP 08

From November 3rd until 11th 2008 the third biennal festival HAIP 08 will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. HAIP is International Multimedia Festival of Open Technologies and is organized by Zavod K6/4 - open multimedia center Kiberpipa from Ljubljana.

HAIP Festival puts on display multimedia art forms resulting from creative use of open technologies. HAIP is an acronym that stands for "Hack-Act-Interact-Progress". The festival features individuals and groups with a critical approach towards the technologies that surround us and shape our everyday environment. They generally use open technologies, either as a practical or an ideological choice. Modern practices of technology and creativity often refer to diverse possibilities and choices at the individual’s disposal - everybody is involved in the social progress and development. And if we take a moment to reflect on what we eat, how we communicate, who dictates how we connect, interact, protest, and participate, we quickly realize that it’s our turn.

The main line of presentation will focus on new art of free digital media - and the new media content that enabled it in the first place - while laying special emphasis on technical and legal aspects of new digital media with free access. The topic was selected with regards to the current time of political involvement in the changes of national strategies regarding the digitalization of mass media and the significant political, contentual and creative consequences thereof. This years festival theme is Hacktopia.

Festival will take place on several locations in Ljubljana featuring exhibitions and installations, performances, public space interventions in the centre of Ljubljana, lectures, club night and round table.

HAIP 08 will host over 40 artists on international level in cooperation with following partners: Monochrom (Vienna), Radio FRO (Linz), Time's Up (Linz) in Ciant (Prague). Programme curators and coordinators are: Daša Lakner (also festival director), Maja Smrekar, Luka Princic in Jaka Železnikar.

Entrance is free for all festival events except the club night at Club K4 (4 EUR).

You are kindly invited to join us on HAIP 08 from November 3rd - 11th and hack the future with us! Visit HAIP 08 site for more information!

paraflows 08 - festival for digital art and cultures

.
.
.
Kultura in umetnost Paraflows

Paraflows, the festival for digital art and cultures in Vienna, is progressing into the third round. By now, paraflows has been able to establish itself as a platform for the young, local scene of digital art and cultures, and this year it will expand on its position as an interface to already established international positions in media art. It will last from September 11th until 20th (the exhibition until October 19th). With the title UTOPIA, this year’s festival is following up last year’s topic of UN_SPACE. Starting with the already explored ‘non-spaces’, this year will take a prognostic glimpse at the future. Fantastic, longing, and gloomy visions are the tenor of the exhibition, the symposium and of the supporting programme.

A part at the exhibition will also be contributed by Kiberpipas production with two project introduced in last season: System Cassio:pia by Maja Smrekar (opening in November 2007) and Pufination by Robertina Sebjanic (opening in May 2008). You can find out more about the festival at www.paraflows.at.

From Linz to Vienna - see you!

Pufination: opening on Thursday, May 15th 2008

.
.
.
Kultura in umetnost ime

Pufis represent microorganisms living in an open ecosystem, while the collection of objects functions as a sensitive sensory network. The visitor is subsumed into the artificially produced "biosphere" through active sensor-based interaction. Pufination is incomplete without interaction. There's no leading role, we're all just cohabiting. The project thus highlights our relationship to other life as an important factor to every individual's own survival. In Pufination, we find ourselves inside a simulated projection of our everyday. Decentralised control, close stimulus response and adherence to simple rules – this is what links robots and visitors in the Pufination.

Pufi robots are based on the Arduino platform. They communicate with each other by a wireless network and with people by touch, sound, light and vibration.

Idea, concept, design: Robertina Šebjanic
Programming, advice: Luka Frelih
Technical realization: Alojzij Sinur in Janž Verbancic
Production lead: Daša Lakner
Produced by: Kiberpipa (Err0r)

You are kindly invited to the opening to Cafe Metropol (above Kiberpipa on Kersnikova Street 6, Ljubljana) on Thursday, May 15th at 9 p.m..

Pufination is supported by Ministrstvo za kulturo RS, Mestna obcina Ljubljana - Oddelek za kulturo in ŠOU v Ljubljani
